Ada Mode is an industrial technology and data science company whose aim is to improve the performance of complex industrial processes through artificial intelligence, engineering expertise and design thinking. Ada Mode helps clients by identifying opportunities in their data, designing a strategy and developing the solution. All of our solutions are bespoke to the customer, built on technology developed in-house. Ada Mode is currently developing game-changing technology for wind energy, nuclear energy, tidal energy, water treatment and manufacturing. We are looking to grow in all these areas to support the proliferation of clean energy and highly efficient industrial performance. We are an SME with a strong order book and are looking for someone who shares our vision and has enthusiasm for growing and developing an exciting business.

We operate flexible working but would like you to be in the office at least once a week. This role can either be based in our Southampton or Bristol office with occasional trips between our offices and to client sites. A successful applicant will join our growing development team working alongside fellow data scientists, front end designers, software developers and engineers to deliver innovative data driven solutions across industry.

The Role

• Work alongside domain experts to frame and solve key industrial problems with modern data science and machine learning techniques

• Carry out self-guided research projects in line with the company’s mission to grow Ada Mode’s R&D base

• Contribute to the development of bespoke client software, tools and other product development activity

• Develop compatible software and cloud skills to deploy data science solutions in productionised software packages

Experience and Qualifications

BSc and ideally an MSc/MEng or PhD in quantitative field such as computer science, maths, operational research, data science, physics, AI or machine learning.

• Knowledge and some experience of implementing supervised machine learning solutions particularly applied to timeseries data

• Knowledge and experience of statistical modelling and inference techniques

• Good grasp of data science project workflow from problem framing to delivery

• Strong programming skills in Python or R with knowledge of common data analysis, visualisation, and machine learning libraries

• Experience handling time series data

• Creative problem-solving skills

Desirable Skills

Extra skills/experience we would like to hear about:

• Deep learning experience in Keras, Tensorflow or Pytorch

• Application of machine learning to unstructured data such as audio, images/video and natural language

• Applications of your work in an industrial setting

• Working in a start-up

• Python knowledge or experience for various applications or projects (flask, fastAPI, dagster, airflow etc.)

• Other computer science skills or experience such as containerisation, CI/CD, cloud computing etc.


• £30k-£35k PA (depending on experience) and competitive pension
